Examples from our shared learning collection show how our guidance on managing medicines for adults receiving social care has been used to improve care. Most people who use intermediate care services have a good outcome. Many more services are being commissioned in an integrated way as recommended by NICE, helping people to move between them depending on their needs. Providers and commissioners have used our quality standards to assess performance and make improvements, as shown in these examples.
Commentary Andy Tilden, interim CEO of Skills for Care, considers how our guidance can be used by people working in adult social care services. This report highlights progress made by the health and care system in implementing NICE guidance. We recognise that change can sometimes be challenging and may require service reconfiguration. It may also require additional resources such as training and new equipment. We also look for opportunities to make savings by reducing ineffective practice.
We would also like to thank all the people who spoke to us about their experience of care and support, or about using NICE guidance in practice, and allowed us to quote them in this report.
